The robustness of critical infrastructure depends on both physical and virtual factors. The same goes for energy, in particular for electricity supply. This paper examines the importance of power supply in generating cascading effects. The factors that determine the cost of power cuts are further investigated in order to estimate the total costs. Moreover, this paper discusses the consequences of automated control systems, as the appearance of new sensitivities in the virtual domain.
